#DISIRability: Those of us with disabilities desire love, touch and intimacy. We are desirable. Explore the connection between desire and disability.

What is #DISIRability?

I came up with this hashtag to explore the connection between desire and disabilities. Sexual Health for people with disabilities is such a taboo topic that needs to be addressed. I have struggled to find answers to many questions around sexual health and relationships throughout my life. I know I am not the only one.

I have been learning as I go. Join me as I share my personal journey through adolescence, adulthood and middle-age as a cisgendered bisexual woman with Spina Bifida. Cisgender means I was assigned female at birth and I identify as a female today.

Topics will include how to meet people, flirting and making connections, gender identity and sexual orientation, telling your partner about your disability, fertility issues, aging with a disability, preparing for surgeries such as hysterectomy, talking with doctors about your needs, and more.

Two things I need to warn you before we start. First, I am not a doctor so I cannot give any medical advice.

The other thing I have to warn you is that I do my best to be open and brutally honest. I feel that being open and vulnerable is the best way to do this because I am sure that there are many of you out there going through some of these same issues and you need to hear this…or you might have a partner that has some of these issues and it will help you understand what your partner may be going through.

I welcome your comments and feedback. I am sharing my perspective and would love to hear your perspective. You can use the comment section or share online with #DISIRability. Join me in this important conversation.
